Family

Family

Make sure that you and your family are protected. Expert legal advice can relieve the anxiety that comes with family changes like adoption, marriage and remarriage. Making your intentions clear now can save you trouble down the road.

As an umbrella term, Family Law refers to all things involving the expansion, contraction, or administration of a family. This includes things like pre-marital and post-marital agreements, paternity, adoption, marriage, divorce, custody, modification of existing orders, family violence and estate planning. Family Law is all about building the best future that you can.

Divorce

Divorce

Separating from a spouse, all too often, means dividing an entire household. Sometimes agreements can be made and the whole process can be resolved out of court, but when you need a divorce lawyer, it’s time to draw the line.

Divorce can include child custody, child support, possession and access, property division, retirement division, valuation of real estate, division and/or valuation of businesses, and spousal support. No two cases are the same: military divorces are conducted differently from police and fire divorces, which are different from common law divorces. It’s easy to get lost: experienced legal counsel can contextualize your case so that you know what to expect and how to move forward.

Child Custody

Child Custody

Situations change, and you need legal representation that can adapt. The most important time we have is the time we get to spend with loved ones. Make sure that you’re getting the most that you can out of your custody arrangement.

Managing custody between parents is never cut and dried. Has either parent remarried? Were the parents ever married to begin with? How prominent are grandparents or other relatives in the life of the child? Child custody laws change, and new precedents are made regularly. A consultation can help to determine an arrangement that’s right for you.

Child Support

Child Support

Make sure your children get the brightest future they can have. We’ll take a look at your situation and make a plan to ensure that they’re well cared for. We’ll work together to develop an agreement with your child’s best interest at heart.

If you’re having issues with child support, whether the problem is the court ordered amount, the payment or collection, or a life change that necessitates renegotiation: legal representation can address the situation.

Same Sex Marriage Guidance

With less than a decade of public knowledge and precedent, consulting a family law professional about your situation is a smart choice. Know your rights, know your options, and get the information you need to make informed decisions about your future.

Estate Planning

Estate Planning

I always recommend that my clients prepare their last wills and testaments well before they think they need to. Whether you’re dealing with the aftermath of a tragedy or preparing for the future, having your estate in order will protect your family and your interests.

It is always easier to revisit an old will than it is to make one for the first time. Even if you never revise it: something is better than nothing, even if all you do is name another person to administer your wishes. Estate planning is one of the easiest things to prepare for, and one of the hardest things to navigate the absence of. Powers of Attorney, Medical Powers of Attorney, Directives to Physicians and Disposition of Remains are all important documents that go along with estate planning.

A PROMISE TO OUR CLIENTS

I have seen clients mislead by online advice or unscrupulous attorneys, blinded by anger, paralyzed by grief, or simply lost in the woods of legal tribulation. It is my promise to be honest and clear about the realities of your case, to reassure and comfort you where it is possible for me to do so, and to provide concise information to help you understand what you’re going through. I will work to save you time, money, and stress. It’s not the end of the road: it’s the start of a new one.
